Betting
on hockey is one
of the most sofisticated sports gambling types. It is hard to
make the right choice for a hockey bettor due to the long game season,
physically demanding nature of the sport, numerous and unpredictable
players' injuries, many
tie and one puck games in hockey.
Hockey betting offers three different types of wagers: the money line
bet, the puck line bet and the total bet.
With the puck line
betting
your bet on a hockey team must win the contest by the pointspread. Due
to changes in events, the point spread may
fluctuate. As an example, if the New York Rangers team is posted at -1
1/2, they would have to win the game by 2 or
more goals for your bet to pay. If, say the Buffalo Sabres team
is listed at + 1 1/2, they would have to lose by less than 2 goals for
your puck line wager to pay. The odds for the puck line bet is the
standard 11/10
wager, unless it is a combination of a puck line and a money line
wagers.
With money line
wagering
you simply bet on the contest at a posted
price rather than a pointspread. You bet that a certain hockey team
will win the game. If, say a listed
money line says:
Buffalo Sabres -150
New York Rangers +120
If you bet $150 on Buffalo Sabres and the team wins, then you
win $100. If you bet $100 on New York Rangers and the
team wins, then you win $120.00 With total, also called over/under wagers
you bet that the total goals of the hockey game will be over or under
the posted number. If the combined score equals the posted total
number, the game is considered "No Action" and wagered money
are deposited
back into your account. The odds for the total bet is the standard
11/10
wager, unless it is a combination of a total and a money line wagers.
When you bet on several selections or propositions with a single wager,
this type of bet is called a parlay
bet, also called multiplies.
All selections you wagered on in a parlay bet must win. If there
is a tie in a hockey game, the parlay wager goes down to the next
lowest number for payoff.
For example if you select 3 games, and one ended up in a tie, your
3-team parlay bet turns into a 2-team parlay. The higher the parlay bet
odds, the bigger the payout. Parlay bets are paid out according to the
money line of the hockey teams you wagered
on. In case if the
selection you wageres on
does not take place due to injury of a player, or any other reasons,
there will
be no refunds.
Here are a few helpful
tips for hockey betting:
Leave
most of your hockey betting activity for the second half of the season
when time spent on ice will show real strength, motivation and winning
potential of every team.
Did you know that only up
to 6 hockey teams usually win over 80% of the time on ice? Do your
homework diligently, find out who these teams are, and play these
money-makers when they meet weaker teams of the season. Try not to bet
on a money-maker match against another money-maker team, your chances
would be slim in this case.
Be consistent, try to wager
the same amount of money on every game. if you bet more money on one
game, and lose it, chances are that you will not compensate it with
smaller winning bets and will end up on the negative side.,
Weak hockey
team usually loses even on home ice. Bet on the strength!
Do not bet on single playoff games. Instead,
pick a potential series winner before the start of the series, and
wager on every hockey game until the series end.
